Hey everyone, I’m planning a 7-week trip to Peru and would love some advice on my itinerary, especially regarding acclimatization and whether my route makes sense logistically. My main goals are: Do some incredible multi-day hikes Take a beginner mountaineering course Attempt a 6000m+ summit (ideally something higher if realistic) Experience some of the best mountain scenery Peru has to offer I have hiking experience and I’m comfortable with long days in the mountains, but I don’t have formal mountaineering experience or my own glacier equipment, so I would need to climb with a guide. My current idea is to start in Huaraz because it seems like the best place for trekking and beginner mountaineering courses. My plan would be: Spend time acclimatizing with day hikes (Laguna Parón, Laguna 69, etc.) Take a beginner mountaineering course Complete the Santa Cruz Trek Complete the Huayhuash Circuit Potentially climb some peaks around Huaraz if there are good beginner/intermediate options after the course After Huaraz, I was thinking of heading to Arequipa while I’m already acclimatized. I’m interested in trying higher volcanoes like Ampato or Coropuna with a guide. I’d finish the area with Colca Canyon before heading onward. Then I’d go to Cusco for: Salkantay Trek Ausangate Circuit Vinicunca (Rainbow Mountain) Pallay Punchu Machu Picchu / Aguas Calientes Finally, I’d spend a couple days in Lima before flying home. Does this route make sense from an acclimatization standpoint? Are there any major logistical issues I’m missing? Are there any hikes, mountains, or areas you think I should prioritize instead? I’d also love recommendations for: Beginner-friendly 6000m peaks in Peru Good mountaineering schools/guides in Huaraz Peaks around Huaraz that would be good preparation before attempting something like Coropuna/Ampato Anything in this itinerary that isn’t worth the time Rough schedule: Huaraz — 26 days Acclimatization/day hikes/planning — 3 days Mountaineering course — 4 days Santa Cruz Trek — 4 days Huayhuash Circuit — 9 days Possible summit attempts — 5 days Travel — 1 day Arequipa — 7 days Planning/preparation — 1 day Coropuna attempt — ~3 days Colca Canyon — 2 days Travel — 1 day Cusco — 14 days Salkantay Trek — 5 days Ausangate Circuit — 5 days Day trips/planning — 3 days Travel — 1 day Lima — 2 days Thanks in advance for any advice!
