Please advice / Peru itinerary finalization
Hi! I am wondering how to finish my itinerary in Peru. I will spend 19 nights in total. During my trip, I will visit the Amazon (3n in Tambopata), then head to the Sacred Valley (2n) and Cusco (3n). Afterward, I will do the Salkantay trek (4n), during which I will visit Humantay and Machu Picchu. Help me choose the rest of my trip: Option 1: After Salkantay, stay an additional 3 nights in Cusco, dedicate one day to rest, and on the other maybe do a day trip to Rainbow Mountain or Ausangate. Afterwards, go to Lima for 3n (do a day trip to Paracas/Huacachina from there). Option 2: After Salkantay, stay 1 night in Cusco to rest, and the following night take an overnight bus to Arequipa. Stay in the region for 3n and include a Colca Canyon visit (or Salinas Nature Reserve). After that, fly to Lima for 1n and fly home. My hesitations: 1: If I choose Option 1, I wonder if it is too much time in the Cusco area, considering I will already spend quite a lot of time there. I like the idea of a slower pace and having time to rest after Salkantay, but I am worried I might feel like I am missing other parts of Peru. I guess it is partly FOMO. 2: If I choose Option 2, I wonder if adding Arequipa/Colca Canyon is really worth the extra travel and moving around, especially after the Salkantay trek. Will it add something significantly different to my trip, or would I be better off enjoying Cusco and Lima at a slower pace?
