Hi all, just wondering if anyone has any experience or advice regarding returning to Peru multiples times within the year. I am an Australian and have been long-term travelling. I went to Peru in May and stayed for 52 days before leaving for Colombia. In a lovely yet logistically annoying turn of events, I fell in love with a Peruvian during this time. I returned to Peru in July and when I asked for three months (planning to stay for less but wanting a buffer), the migration officer advised that I was only allowed to stay for 90 days within 365 days and noted I had already spent 52 days in Peru. I was confused by this as the offical Australian traveller website and other websites said I could stay for up to 183 days within 365 days, but with a maximum of 90 days per entry. She ended up giving me 60 days and I used all of this, with no issues when I left. I used google translate to speak to the migration officer on my way out to say that I would like to return to Peru in 1-2 months for some concerts and to spend more time with a “friend” (my boyfriend) and I was wanting to confirm if this would be okay. He said that I could only stay for 90 days within 365 days, but he didn’t note that I have already exceeded this. When I brought up the 183 days I have read elsewhere, he said that I may be approved for another entry/more than 90 days within the year if I show flights and bookings and that they may want to talk to my “friend”. I am concerned I’ll run into trouble if I just fly back to Peru and ask for more time, even though I would stay within the total 183 days for the year. Does anyone know if there is a way to be pre-approved or how to contact migration to ask about this? I contacted the Australian embassy after my second visit to Peru to clarify whether it was 90 or 183 days given my interaction with the migration officer and they just referred me to the information online.
