One month travelling Peru after 6 months living in Lima — itinerary advice
Hi everyone, I’m an Irish guy in my 20s planning to move to Lima for around 6 months to teach English. While I’m living there, I’m planning to use my weekends and occasional long weekends to explore places around Peru, rather than trying to see everything after I finish teaching. Once I finish teaching, I’m thinking of taking around one month to travel around Peru before continuing on to Bolivia. My current idea for the month is: Lima → Huaraz → Iquitos → Cusco→ Salkantay Trek + Machu Picchu →Bolivia During my time in Lima, I’m hoping to use weekends for things such as Huacachina, the Ballestas Islands and other places that are relatively easy to reach from Lima A few questions: What would you recommend doing as weekend trips from Lima during the six months? Which places should I save for after finishing teaching? Would you change the order of the itinerary? How many days would you recommend for Huaraz? Is Iquitos the best place to see the Amazon? Is there anything obvious I'm missing? I’m particularly interested in nature, adventure, food and experiencing different parts of Peru. Any advice from people who have lived in Lima or travelled extensively around Peru would be really appreciated! Thanks!
