Hello Peru, Please forgive me for writing this in English. Unfortunately, I don't speak any Spanish at all. And sorry for being so secretive—my wife is a little paranoid about this topic. I’m very excited to travel to my wife’s home country again over Christmas and spend time with her family. While we’re there, we would also like to have our newborn son baptized. Because of... reasons... the baptism has to take place in a specific city in northern Peru. We would like my sister to be our son’s godmother. And this is where the problem begins. My entire family, including my sister, is Protestant. This has never been an issue before. However, the Catholic parish that my wife’s family belongs to told us that my sister cannot be a godparent because she was baptized as a Protestant. Everything I have found online on this topic says that, according to the rules of the Catholic Church, only one godparent is required to be Catholic. So my question to you is: Does anyone know whether this is just the policy of some individual parishes, or whether it is the same everywhere? Does anyone perhaps have another idea for how my assister could still be involved as a godmother?
